Edmond Vidal (Gérard Lanvin), nicknamed "Momon", grows up in miserable surroundings in a gypsy encampment. Proud of his origins he holds firm to gypsy family values and a sense of loyalty to the clan at all costs. A constant in Momon's life has been his friendship with Serge Suttel (Tchéky Karyo) - they've done prison-time together, though real gangster-ism kicked-in after they formed the "Gang des Lyonnais" in the early 1970's. They reached their peak in 1974, ending in a spectacular shootout. These days, Momon lives a quiet and respectable life trying to bury his criminal past - he seeks redemption in caring for his long-suffering wife Janou (Valeria Cavalli), his kids and grandkids. Meanwhile, his old buddy Serge is living anything but the simple life...
The film is based on the real Gang des Lyonnais and their leader Edmond Vidal, responsible for 35 major holdups between 1967 and 1974. Vidal himself served as film consultant and helped recruit bands of gypsies as part of the 3,000 extras involved in the filming of this amazing saga. Authentic costumes and period venues abound.
Director, screenwriter, actor, producer Olivier Marchal (36 QUAI DES ORFÈVRES, CINEMANIA 2005), a retired Parisian police inspector turned successful cineaste, brings once again (as only he can) an authentic gangster thriller to CINEMANIA's screen.
