Christina, (Christelle Cornil), soon to turn 30, lives in the Charleroi region of Belgium with Marco, her long-term partner. Christina holds down a part-time job in a pizzeria until she can find something more interesting. At the reading of her grandmother's will, she’s surprised to learn that she has inherited a decrepit property in the wilds of Corsica. Her family, as well as Marco's, urge her to sell the derelict house but Christina stubbornly persists in trying to discover why-on-earth her grandmother left her such a strangely worthless inheritance. Finding the answer to the mystery of "why" starts Christina on a path of questioning her hitherto banal everyday world. Her voyage of discovery to Corsica will ultimately turn her life, and that of those around her, upside down. Her pilgrimage becomes transformative, a flight toward vitality and a re-invention of her life through a series of on-the-road encounters and adventures. And, it takes a particularly powerful yet subtle performance by Christelle Cornil to capture Christina's obsessive drive and captivating energy.
First-time Belgian director Pierre Duculot is himself from Charleroi and once dreamt of running off to Corsica to raise sheep. His MILES FROM ANYWHERE has been a particular stalwart this year in Official Competition at many European film festivals.
