IMPERIAL CINEMA
Centre Sandra et Leo Kolber | Salle Lucie et André Chagnon

- Montreal, May, 28th 2013 -
Over the last two weeks, the CINEMANIA programming team attended the acclaimed Cannes Film Festival, in preparation for its 19th edition taking place November 7 to 17th, 2013. CINEMANIA programmers, as always, attended both the Official Competition and Cannes Market screenings, and networked at industry events. A total of 70 films were screened, the best of which will be featured as Quebec or Canadian premieres at CiNEMANIA in Montreal in November, in addition to those invited from important festivals such as the Berlineale and TIFF (Toronto).
The CINEMANIA premiere films screened at the Imperial Cinema play an important role as a launching pad in attracting local distribution -- one recent example is Belgian Director Patrick Ridremont's DEAD MAN TALKING acquired by Axia Films.
Of the 35 feature films premiered at the 2012 most recent edition of CINEMANIA, 16 ultimately found their way onto local commercial cinema screens. Following its exciting Festival opening night, the prestigious RUST AND BONE (Metropole Distribution) went on to open in cinemas in January 2013 and the most recent film by actress/director Sandrine Bonnaire MADDENED By HIS ABSENCE, (Axia Films) was released on March 14, 2013, following its CINEMANIA November premiere. Similarly, Festival Prix du Public and TFO double prize-winner OMBLINE was acquired by AZ Films --DVD release date is in July 2013. Other notable post-Festival releases are RENOIR (Metropole), WHAT THE DAY OWES THE NIGHT (AZ Films), and A LADY IN PARIS (Fun Film).
The next edition of CINEMANIA takes place from November 7th to 17th, 2013. Festival program committee is composed of Maidy Teitelbaum (President and Founder), Natalie Belanger (Managing Director), and Guilhem Caillard (Film Programmer).
