He is now recognized as one of the most important French filmmakers in activity. His most famous titles, Comment je me suis disputé… (ma vie sexuelle), Rois et Reine, Un conte de Noël, Jimmy P, Les Fantômes d’Ismaël, and Roubaix, une lumière have won numerous awards in France and elsewhere.

He obtained a César for Best Director in 2016 for Trois souvenirs de ma jeunesse, he was also a member of the feature film jury at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, presided by George Miller. Among his favorite actors are Mathieu Amalric and Emmanuelle Devos, Thibault de Montalembert, Denis Podalydès, Marion Cotillard and Léa Seydoux. 

In partnership with the Cinémathèque Québécoise, CINEMANIA offers the audience the possibility to revisit some of the director's classics. The festival also organizes the Quebec premieres of his two most recent films : Tromperie and Frère et sœur. All screenings will be accompanied by Desplechin himself, who will take part in a Discussion Croiséeat L'Inis with one of Quebec's most acclaimed filmmakers, Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette.
