We all know Little Nicolas, a cheerful and mischievous boy, with his straight hair and red vest, always surrounded by his group of friends. But we know a little less about the origins of this cult character of French comics. Leaning over a large blank sheet of paper somewhere between Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, René Goscinny (father of Asterix) and Jean-Jacques Sempé bring him to life. As the story unfolds, the boy slips into the workshop of his creators, and questions them with humor. They tell him about how they met and became friends, but also reveal their secrets and speak of their childhoods. The only animated film selected in Cannes this year, this is a poetic and playful film, brought to life by the voices of Alain Chabat and Laurent Lafitte.
