Sandra, a single mother raising her daughter, often visits her sick father, Georg. As she and her family undertake an uphill battle to get him treated, Sandra meets up with Clement, a long-lost friend… Mia Hansen-Løve (Bergman Island, L'Avenir) depicts a subtle and detailed portrait of a heroine simultaneously confronted with the mourning of a loved one and the birth of a passionate romance. Shot on 35mm film, this eighth feature is one of the French director's most personal films, giving us here a movie of unique sensitivity conveyed by a rich and disarming performance by Léa Seydoux.
