March 11 2011: Japan suffers the Fukushima nuclear accident. Alexandra, a French woman who works in a bank, is torn between her bosses ‘contradictory orders and the necessity of protecting her family. She finds herself, almost in spite of herself, defending a certain idea of honour and the given promise made.
CINEMANIA’s opinion :
Ten years after these events, Olivier Peyon makes an alarming film of disarming subtlety that avoids the usual excesses of this genre. Inspired by the eye witness account of a friend, he retraces the chronology of these events and the surrounding disinformation. As a good employee wishing to perform her professional duties to the utmost, Karin Viard gives one of her best performances. As in APPEARANCES (shown at Cinemania in 2021), she plays an expatriate whose values are shaken. At her side, Yumi Narita makes use of his own experience of this catastrophe to evoke the Japanese people’s resilience in the face of adversity. In addition to being very well documented (thanks to videos shot by amateurs who filmed the actual events), this rhythmic story combines comic elements and offers up a telling satire of the corporate world.
