DIRECTOR
Named Artist for Peace in 2012, Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette has directed several award-winning feature-length documentaries, including LES PETITS PRINCES DES BIDONVILLES (2000), SI J'AVAIS UN CHAPEAU (2006), LES PETITS GÉANTS (2010, winner of a Gémeaux) and SE SOUVENIR DES CENDRES (2010), which followed the adventure of Denis Villeneuve's film INCENDIES and won the Gémeaux for Best Documentary, as well as LE PLANCHER DES VACHES (2014).
She directed three fiction films LE RING (2008 - selected in Toronto and Berlin), INCH'ALLAH (2012, selected in Toronto, Berlin - Fipresci International Critics Award, Ecumenical Jury Prize in Berlin) and GODDESS OF THE FIREFLIES (selected in Berlin). She will soon present the feature film CHIEN BLANC, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Romain Gary.
In the spring of 2016, she and Émile Proulx Cloutier presented the stage documentary PÔLE SUD at the Espace libre theater. Their new creation, PAS PERDUS, will be presented at the Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui in the spring of 2022.
She is co-founder of the environmental movement Les Mères au Front (@mèresaufront.org).
She is the author of the travel chronicles EMBRASSER YASSER ARAFAT (2011), the children's book NOS HÉROÏNES (2018) and the novels JE VOUDRAIS QU'ON M'EFFACE (2010) and LA FEMME QUI FUIT (Prix des libraires du Québec, Grand Prix de la ville de Montréal, Prix France-Quebec, elected best-seller of the decade 2010-2020) a great critical and popular success.
